Can you short a stock while already owning it?

Senior Member   Join Date: Jan 2003 Posts: 1,188	Can you short a stock while already owning it? Curious to know if this scenario is possible: 1. Already own 1000 shares of ABC 2. ABC stock price drops, wish to do a naked short while still holding on to the 1000 shares of ABC. 3. End of trading day buy back the shares owed, while still holding on to the 1000 shares of ABC. Possible? Or have to do the short on another account with different CDP?
